Hello!
Long time no speak, all thanks to this whole getting a degree thing. Speaking of my degree (Multimedia Journalism, big up Bournemouth Uni), I've just released my radio documentary 'Socks, Tissues and Sellotape.' When set this assignment, they merely said it had to be a feature for a change we wanted in the world. After interviewing Amika George, the amazing person behind the petition earlier in 2016, I was still passionate and keen to spread more awareness on the issue!
I explore the issue of period poverty among UK schoolgirls through speaking to Plan International UK, Chella Quint the founder of #periodpositive and Vie Portland from the community project 'The Red Box Project.'
Having a mum who grew up in Singapore unable to afford these necessities makes this issue super important to me and from the feedback so far people were either unaware that this was even a problem or only associated the issue with third world countries and homelessness. Although my documentary focuses on menstruators in education, we should be helping everyone from all walks of life.
The link to the documentary is below, please sign the petition and get involved in charities combating the problem!
My uni course host a Broadcast Awards night and I was delighted to win 'Best Radio Feature' for this, although I had to deal with sitting and cringing through 7 minutes of a lecture theatre listening to my voice, anyone else ironically hate their voice but love doing radio??
Have a wonderful day!
Claudia
