On the 18th of August I woke up after a terrible nights sleep filled with overthinking, worrying about the future, oh and it didn't help that I flew in from Florida the previous day. I woke up, opened my laptop to UCAS Track and waited impatiently for an hour refreshing the page when finally it said my offer from Bournemouth University had become unconditional! Me and my mum cheered, started to hypothetically create a shopping list and I finally felt relieved and human again, not a bag full of nerves. After maybe getting a bit too 'lit' on results day and celebrating with those that got the grades and peeling my best friend off the carpark of Tesco Express who was merely a few marks from going to her chosen uni, I'm no longer jet-lagged or have to deal with copious amounts of holiday washing so I can now fully focus on the fact that I'M GOING TO UNI!
I bagged a room in my favourite halls with a bus stop right outside which means more sleep before lectures and I already know 3 out of my 5 flatmates which is really comforting to know that I'll recognise a few faces but also kinda weird. My parents talk to me about their uni experience, how they knew no one there, whereas now due to social media I know they went on a lads trip to Napa and I can ask them how amazing the Red Hot Chilli Peppers were at Reading, I don't know I just find this kinda odd..
First stop on the uni checklist was IKEA! Normally I love a trip to ikea: strolling through living rooms, smelling candles and getting a cheeky hotdog at the end but doing this with a hangover was another story. It felt like some sort of torture, aimlessly walking in circles for hours and feeling as though you were still in the same place also surrounded by moody, hungover teenagers being lectured on the quality of a can opener. I bought a few bits and bobs for the kitchen and then we were out!
Next stop on the uni prep list was the Chinese supermarket, perks of being mixed race means my Singaporean mother will make sure I have enough soy sauce, curry powder and noodles to last me a century and my English fam will supply with ciders and teach me how to make a mean shepherd's pie.
So now that I've updated everyone: it's currently the 26th of August, I have my driving test soon and I have no idea how or when to start packing for uni...
